What CiteLocal does
CiteLocal measures how AI assistants answer local questions. When someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI for the best med spa near them, they get one synthesized answer naming two or three businesses instead of a page of links. We run real prompts against those systems, record which businesses get named, and publish what we find.
That measurement is also a product: a business can scan itself for free, and pay for weekly monitoring and remediation if it wants to change the result. The rankings on this site come out of the same data collection, and are published whether or not a business is a customer.
Who runs it
CiteLocal is built and operated by Jayesh Sahasi, its founder, in Los Altos, California. It is a small, independent, self-funded operation — not a media company with a newsroom, and it does not pretend to be one.
That matters for how you should read the rankings. They are produced from public review data by a published formula, not by a panel of editors with clinical expertise. Where a page states something, it is because it was measured or checked. Where we have not checked something, the page says nothing rather than guessing.
Where the data comes from
Review data: publicly available Google Business Profile and Yelp ratings and review counts, collected through third-party data providers. Each ranking page shows the date its data was collected.
AI-citation data: real prompts run against ChatGPT, recording whether a given business is named. This exists for a subset of businesses we have scanned — 45 Bay Area med spas as of July 2026 — and is shown only where it is real. It is never estimated or extrapolated to businesses we have not scanned.
Nothing on this site is generated to fill a gap. A business with no rating on file is excluded from a ranking rather than assigned a guessed score.
How CiteLocal makes money
Subscriptions, paid by businesses that want ongoing monitoring and remediation of their own AI-search visibility. There is a free scan, and paid monthly plans.
Placement in a ranking is not for sale and never has been. No business has paid to appear, to move up, or to be removed. See the editorial standards page for the full policy, including what happens if a ranked business becomes a customer.
